Two minor nits: Putnam was four-time Pro Bowler, and the Cowboys didn't have a college draft before the 1960 season. Otherwise a great article.

Duane putnam was my grandfather. He was my hero. Always was larger than life to me...but never acted that way. This little story of your memory and experience makes me happy. Thank you for sharing this. Many valuable lessons he taught me that I didn't realize at the time but now that I have my own kids, i hope to pass his wisdom along. He was a great man and is missed everyday. 61 forever
